DeSonta Tillman is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois, practicing as a therapist and job coach for seniors. DeSonta has over 15 years experience working with youth in an urban setting and the past 5 years focusing on trauma. Most recent experience is working with victims and survivors of sexual assault. DeSonta has worked across a variety of settings which include; private practice, schools, and community organizations. She currently serves adolescents, families, couples, and groups. Her diverse education and background enable her to offer a unique and effective approach to counseling while meeting clients where they are. DeSonta uses an approach that combines empathy and unconditional positive regard, to assist in making changes in various areas. DeSonta utilizes a holistic approach where clients are encouraged to explore psychoeducation, self-awareness, and the interconnectedness of their environment. She is a humanistic, person-centered therapist. Her theory is that when people are determined, have the information and resources they can learn to consider other’s perspectives and challenge their former thinking; therefore, experiencing change.
Outside of practicing therapy, DeSonta operates a non-profit that focuses on Social Emotional Learning and recently launched a mental health app, MChat. MChat connects users to counselors, helps users assess and articulate their mood, and offer positive coping strategies to manage emotions. She is a board certified member of the National Board of Certified Counselors. She continues to educate herself by attending conferences, keeping up with current therapy research, and seeking supervision.
