Val graduated with her B.A. in psychology from Chicago State University and her M.A. in Marriage and Family Counseling from Governors State University. Along with her education and training, Val has partnered with clients of all ages to help with their life transitions. Solution focused and oriented she has a record of positive outcomes for clients. Val is a community connect and has expertise in connecting resources to agencies. Val is a Trauma Informed Clinician and uses artistic expression and clients’ natural environments to create a safe space for clients to heal and deal with their past, present and future. She has had over 7 years of community mental health experience with emphasis on affordable housing and access to equitable mental health services. Val strongly believes that clients are the experts in their treatment and she is an active motivator and coach for the client to reach their treatment goals.
Val is passionate about strengthening Black families and individuals with play therapy, empathic listening and empowering individuals. Val’s self care includes walking her neighborhoods in Chicago, reading, writing a few books one day, and listening to all genres of music while making memories and moments with family and friends.
