DeSonta Tillman is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois, practicing as a therapist and serving as the Clinical Director for HELP LLC.  DeSonta has over 15 years of experience working with youth in an urban setting and has focused on trauma for the past 5 years.  DeSonta is completing her PhD in Counseling Education and Supervision at Governor State University.   She is interested in supervision models used with newer clinicians and approaches that integrate wellness within the supervision setting.  DeSonta has worked across various settings, including private practice, schools, and community organizations.  She currently serves adolescents, families, and couples.  Her diverse education and background enable her to offer a unique and practical approach to counseling while meeting clients where they are.  DeSonta uses an approach that combines empathy and unconditional positive regard to assist in making changes in various areas.  She utilizes a holistic approach, ensuring that clients' mental health is considered in a comprehensive way, and encourages them to explore psychoeducation, self-awareness, and the interconnectedness of their environment.  She is a humanistic, person-centered therapist.  Her theory is that when people are determined and have the information and resources, they can learn to consider other perspectives and challenge their former thinking, therefore experiencing change.

DeSonta's commitment to the field of mental health extends beyond her therapy practice. She is the founder of a nonprofit that focuses on Social-Emotional Learning and the creator of MChat, a mental health app that connects users to counselors and provides tools for mood assessment and emotion management. As a board-certified member of the National Board of Certified Counselors, DeSonta is dedicated to her own professional development, regularly attending conferences, staying abreast of current therapy research, and seeking supervision to ensure she is providing the best possible care to her clients.
