Dr. Karen McCurtis Witherspoon

Dr. Witherspoon, a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois, has accumulated thousands of clinical hours conducting assessments with children and adults. Her practice is primarily focused on psychological, program, and parenting evaluations, with an additional emphasis on providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults. Notably, she serves as the Chief Clinical Supervisor, demonstrating her leadership and management skills by overseeing all licensed and licensed eligible behavioral health professionals at HELP.

Dr. Witherspoon, a tenured professor, published author, and grant writer, has a profound impact on her students. Her tenure as the past President of The Chicago Chapter and a Member-at-Large on the National Executive Board of the Association of Black Psychologists is a testament to her leadership. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago, earning an M.A. in Community Counseling and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Her teaching philosophy is not just about imparting knowledge, but about empowering learners to make connections between their experiences and the subject matter. She believes in fostering a sense of responsibility in students for their learning objectives, in addition to the course objectives, and that focusing on learning processes leads to more significant outcomes.
